Tope FAMILY PAGE

Sarah Ann Tope, daughter of Jacob John Tope and Sarah Everhart,  was born 12 November 1817 in Ohio, and died on 30 May 1893 in Eldorado, Fayette Co., Iowa [note 1]. She married John Johnson-Johnston on 18 June 1840 in Jefferson, Ohio [note 2]. John was born 5 March 1817 in Washington Co., Pennsylvania, and died 21 January 1888 in Dover, Fayette, Iowa [note 3].  Sarah and John are buried in the city cemetery, West Union, Dover Twp., Iowa.

Sarah and John moved to Fayette Co., Iowa in 1852 where they had 40 acres of land [note 4]
Sarah and John had five children:

1. William Alexander Johnston
2. John T. Johnston was born in 1843, and died 7 September 1882 in Kansas.  He married Matilda Schultz Kappel, who was born on 25 April 1850.
   John and Matilda had one child:
   Samuel Thoms Johnston was born 29 October 1881 in Oberlin, Decatur Co., Kansas, and died 21 August 1949 in Douglas, Cochise Co., Arizona. He married Bessie Carlisle.

5. Sarah Jane Johnston
