TOPE FAMILY PAGE

    John Tope was born on 16 November 1767 in Frederick County, Maryland, near Harpers Ferry, and died 26 October 1844 in Carroll County, Ohio.  He married Mary Helmick about whom little information is known, except that after John's death she lived and died at the home of their son, Jacob, in New Rumley, Harrison County, Ohio [note 1].
    Their religious preference was Lutheran.
        John and Mary Tope had fourteen children [note 2 & 3]:

1. Abraham Tope.
2. Henry Tope was born in 1794 and died in Illinois.  He married a Miss Hazlett.
3. Pheobe Tope was born 16 April 1796 and died 25 January 1887.  She married Charles Burchfield who died in 1821, and later married Joseph Burchfield on 19 April 1828.  Click on Phoebe's link for a full Burchfield history.
4. George Tope was born in 1798 and died in Ohio.
5. Jacob John Tope.
6. Frances Tope.
7. Becky Tope was born in 1805 and married a Mr. Criss.
8. Elizabeth Tope was born 11 July 1807 and died 25 April 1835 Salem, Jefferson Co., Ohio.
9. Mary Tope was born in 1808 and married George Alford.  They had one child, Lucinda Alford, who married John C. Wingate.
10. Delilah Tope was born 1810 and married John Myers on 14 November  1833 in Jefferson Co., Ohio.
11. John Tope was born in 1811.
12. Joseph Tope.
13. Nancy Tope was born 10 June 1815 in Ohio and died 4 April 1865 in Dubuque, Iowa.  She married William Criss.
14. Child Tope died in infancy.
