Tope FAMILY PAGE

 Jacob John Tope, son of John Tope was born 4 March 1789 in Pennsylvania, and died 1858 in Fayette Co., Iowa.  He married Sarah Everhart (Everhard), daughter of Phillip Everhart and Barbara Eckhart  in Jefferson Co., Ohio.  She was born 1789 in Pennsylvania, and died 1870 in Fayette Co., Iowa [note 2].

The family moved to Fayette Co., Iowa in 1858 [note 3].

Jacob and Sarah had eight children:

1. Sarah Ann Tope was born 1816, Ohio [note 4], and died  1890, Fayette Co., Iowa.  She married John Johnston in Ohio.  He was born 5 March 1817 in Washington Co., Pennsylvania.  Sarah and John had one child: 


1. George Perry Johnston was born 23 October 1847, Ohio, and married Lizzie Mittelstadt in Dover Township, Fayette Co., Iowa [note 5].
2. Barbara Tope was born 26 February 1825, Carroll Co., Ohio, and died on 31 August 1910 in West Union, Fayette Co., Iowa.  She married Ralph Joslin.  She later married John L. Hoover, son of Jacob Hoover and Elizabeth Rosier, on 1 August 1867 in Fayette Co., Iowa.  John was born 1 August 1835 in Logan Co., Ohio [note 6].
3. Lucinda was born in 1827 and died 15 June 1833, Carroll Co., Ohio. She was struck and killed by lightning, and is  buried at the graveyard at the east end of town [note 7].
4. Mary Ann Tope.
5. Delilah Tope was born 1829, Ohio, and died in 1890 in Ohio [note 8].
6. Francis (Fanny) Tope was born 20 February 1830, Carroll Co., Ohio and died in 1890.  She married Zephaniah Keys.
7. John Jacob Tope.
8. George Washington Tope.
